The World Ocean School is an internationally focused nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing challenging educational programs aboard the schooner Roseway.

The 2012 Summer Ambassador Program is an opportunity for students ages 12-16 to set sail for Halifax Nova Scotia for 20 days—expanding their perspective of the world, immersing themselves in and contributing to different cultures, and practicing community building aboard the historic landmark schooner Roseway. During their expedition at sea, students will learn and practice seamanship and navigation as they operate and maintain the 137-foot schooner that is their home, as well as carry out lessons in history, environmental responsibility, teambuilding, and language arts.
DATES:
July 14 – August 2, 2012
World Ocean School promotes stimulating experiential education while fostering an appreciation for and a commitment to community and relationships, and cultivating an expanded world view. The curriculum is carried out in the formal setting of the ship’s classroom, in small groups on ship watches, and in the field on shore visits. Each student will keep an individual journal as well as participate in a nautical book club and various community service projects throughout the voyage. There will be tremendous exploration both on and off the water: sailing, hiking and community building.
Financial Aid: World Ocean School generally has five scholarships available for students. These are competitive and an application is required, there is a priority deadline of January 1, 2012.
In the past, there are many ways students have been successful pursuing their own sponsorships and we highly encourage this. Please download the Scholarship Application 2012.

The 2012 program will depart from and return to Boston, Massachusetts. Roseway is docked downtown in the financial district which is close to Logan Airport and South Station for buses and trains. World Ocean School staff will meet students at their arrival location on the first day of the session and guide them back to the ship, as well as escorting them to their departure location on the last day of the session.
Travel arrangements are the student’s responsibility and it is important that they arrive and depart on the first and last day of the session they are attending.
This year a CURRENT PASSPORT WILL BE REQUIRED FOR EACH STUDENT participating in the program.
